Lanark Walks

As part of the ‘Lanark Vision’ Development strategy, we want to make the most of Lanark’s scenic and historic location by enhancing and promoting local walks and cycling routes. With thanks to Eleanor McLean, Board Member of the Development Trust, two trails have been developed to date to highlight key aspects of Lanark’s heritage. These trails are available by clicking on the links below, or physical copies can be picked up in The Tolbooth.                                     The Wallace Trail: From tales of romance at St Kentigern’s Church to drawing his sword at Lanark Castle, follow in ‘the footsteps of William Wallace’ in this trail which leads you through Wallace’s early life in Lanark, pointing out key historical milestones and landmarks along the way. Click here to download a copy.                                               The Heritage Trail: Step back in time and enjoy a walking tour around the historic market town of Lanark. You will not only come across lovely old buildings of architectural interest, discover the development of the town throughout the years, but uncover some of Lanark’s hidden treasures. Click here to download a copy.                 Landscape Trail: Discover the beautiful landscape of Lanark, New Lanark and the Falls of Clyde. There is so much for walkers to discover in and around Lanark. This leaflet outlines three walks which bring together Lanark’s fascinating history with its beautiful rural surroundings. Expect to encounter characters and events that have shaped Scotland and enjoy impressive views of Tinto Hill, the Clyde Valley and Falls of Clyde. Click here to download a copy.
