Rose Volunteer

This Volunteer Position is for anyone interested in Rose plants and rose beds. We have a few here in Castlebank and the there is always work to be done on them.

Background:

Castlebank Horticultural Centre sits within the historic Castlebank Park, on the banks of the Clyde in Lanark. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is interested in roses or is knowledgable about roses.

Objectives:

Work with our Educational Gardener Walter and fellow volunteers to maintain the rose plants throughout the park.

Specific tasks and duties:

Pruning
Weeding
Planting
Fertilizing

Training:

Induction and training happen on-the-job

Times/Days:

Tuesday 10:00-13:00
Tuesday 13:30-15:00

Thursday 10:00-13:00
Thursday 13:30-15:00

Commitment required:

Ideally, we ask that volunteers commit to at least a few hours, this means more work gets done and no one is rushing trying to finish something.

Skills/experience/ personal qualities required:

An enthusiastic passion for being part of the Castlebank Horticultural Centre Community
Reliability. It is important that you turn up for your shift and communicate (as agreed with Educational Gardener) if you can’t make it.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal instructions.
Be able to work both independently and as a part of a team.
Positive attitude and good work ethic.
Be respectful, polite and courteous to fellow volunteers.
A commitment to employ safe work practices as guided by your supervisor is mandatory.
