At Castlebank Horticultural Centre, we strive to promote the principles of inclusivity for all,
respect for the environment and all living things within it, expanding our knowledge about the
natural world, and promoting the physical and mental health benefits of adopting a balanced
lifestyle through engagement with the natural world around us.
The first phase of Castlebank Horticultural Centre, the growing compound opened in May 2014. The second phase, the Community Hub, opened in November 2018 and is now home to a full-time Educational Gardener and a year-long programme of educational activities, volunteering opportunities and community events. Rooms at the centre are also available for hire for business, community and personal lets. The centre is managed by Lanark Community Development Trust. Proceeds from the centre’s activities and hires are returned to the Development Trust to reinvest in the centre, and the ongoing development and maintenance of the Castlebank Park gardens. Community Gardeners at Castlebank Horticultural Centre and Castlebank Park
We are always looking for more Community Gardening Volunteers to join our friendly team at Castlebank Horticultural Centre. You can volunteer for a couple of hours, or the full day – it’s up to you! Meet new people, get some fresh air, learn new skills and green your fingers. Help us restore the historic Castlebank Gardens to their former glory, help us grow fresh fruit and vegetables and maintain the gardens around the centre.

The current volunteering days at Castlebank are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9.30am – 3pm. The opportunity is very flexible and you can participate for as many hours or days as you wish. If you have any questions please contact us.
In Lanark, Castlebank Horticultural Centre is located within the historic area of Castlebank Park in the south of the town.

Car: Lanark is located around 50 minutes from Glasgow and Edinburgh by car. From the west
Train: The nearest train station to the centre is ‘Lanark’ which has a direct connection to Motherwell/ Glasgow Central. The station is around a 20-minute walk from the centre or a short taxi journey.
Bus: There is a bus service between Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow and Lanark. Details of this service are available by calling Stuart’s Coaches on 01555 773533. Does not run on Sundays.
Parking: The main car park at Castlebank Park is located around a 5-minute walk from the centre either up St Patrick’s Road or along a path within the park. The most accessible route is along St Patrick’s road which is paved. There is also a bike rack directly outside the centre. There are 3 disabled spaces directly outside the centre, primarily for Blue Badge holders or visitors with limited mobility.
