Castlebank Horticultural Centre
FREE Teaching Resource – Gardening and Nature Club
Castlebank Horticultural Centre in Lanark’s Gardening & Nature Club – Now FREE to schools and nurseries…
Castlebank Horticultural Centre in Lanark operates as a social enterprise by Lanark Community Development Trust. The centre hosts an annual programme of volunteering opportunities, educational visits, workshops, fundraising events and training courses. Currently employed is an Educational Gardener, funded on a 3-year basis by The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland.
As part of the centre’s efforts to engage local young families in learning about the natural environment and gardening, a ‘Family Gardening Club’ was launched in summer 2019. This was very popular, and was extended into all public school holidays such as the September Weekend and October Week. Due to COVID-19, the Easter 2020 clubs had to be cancelled and due to the ongoing pandemic, the scheduled summer 2020 programme was unable to start as normal. Thanks to funding from The Rotary Club of Lanark, the centre has launched a virtual Summer Family Gardening and Nature Club.
Each weekly session has a different nature or gardening theme – from bugs and birds, to growing veggies, fantastic flowers and wriggly worms! Each ‘week’ includes a video with Stuart the Educational Gardener and a PDF activity pack with 8-10 themed activities pupils can enjoy at school, or at home.
Thanks to the funding from the Rotary Club of Lanark, the centre is happy for schools and nurseries to use these videos and activity packs as a teaching resource.
Do you have further teaching or learning requirements? We’d be delighted to discuss how we can help you – whether this is with our Educational Gardener visiting your school to deliver sessions, virtual classroom sessions or small groups visiting our centre in Lanark.
Please contact us on email@example.com or call 01555 728 329 to discuss.
