Hi everyone,

We have recently hit the renewal period for membership of Lanark Community Development Trust, and we’re taking it as a chance to promote membership and encourage more of the local community to sign up. Click here to read more and click here to download a membership application form.

Over at Castlebank Horticultural Centre, it’s been very busy as we’ve come into the summer holidays which got off to a very royal start! In June, our volunteers clocked up an amazing 550 hours at the centre, many of which were busy getting the park looking fantastic for The Duke of Rothesay’s visit!

On Friday 5th July we launched our Free Family Gardening Club which is running on set Fridays in the summer holidays (not Friday 26th July). Everyone had a great time and we’re delighted with the positive response the club has had, so much so it’s now fully booked for the rest of the summer! If you’d like to register your interest for similar family events in the future, please send us an email on to be first to hear about anything that’s going on.

We’re also currently promoting our weekly veg boxes for businesses (ideal for cafés and restaurants), and our “How to Grow Your Own” Workshop on Thursday 15th August at the Horticultural Centre. To try a business veg box, or register for the workshop please email or call 01555 728 329.

Finally at the Horticultural Centre, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve been awarded a Volunteering Matters Action Earth Grant, to work in partnership with The Haven to transform this area of bare ground into a beautiful rock garden at the centre’s entrance. The project is funded by Scottish Natural Heritage. The project dates are Tuesday 20th and 27th August, 10.30am – 12.30pm followed by a light lunch. If you’d like to join in creating the rock garden, please email us on or call 01555 728 329.

Looking at the Development Trust’s other projects, we recently had a meeting regarding….wait for it….Christmas!! We were discussing the creation of this year’s Lanark Festive Events Programme and the key dates for big festive events in the town. Dates for your diary are – Christmas Market (16th November), Illuminated Parade & Late Night Shopping (22nd November) and Festive Taste of Lanark (7th December). We also discussed FlowerFest 2020 which has been set for Friday 8th – Sunday 10th May 2020 in Castlebank Park. The theme will be VE DAY 75th Anniversary, linking in with numerous celebrations across the nation over that weekend. Keep an eye on all things festivals at

On The Lanark Website, we have recently uploaded another Discover Lanark Business Showcase article. Latest to feature is McKellars Jewellers on the High Street. Click here to read the feature. If you would like to feature your business, please email
