Hi everyone,

The big news this week is that Castlebank Park has been named as one of the 25 finalists from all over Europe, out of over 170 submissions, in the European Network for Rural Development (ENRD)’s Rural Inspiration Awards. A public vote is now open to support the judges in making their final decision – we would greatly appreciate your support in voting! Click here to read the full story.

The week kicked off with a meeting with Alzheimer Scotland to confirm the details for the Dementia Friendly Gardening Group we are going to be starting at Castlebank Horticultural Centre. Our new ‘Flourish’ group will be running on the first Monday of the month, starting on 1st April. Further details will be coming very soon. Places will be limited, so if you would be interested in attending please register your interest by emailing info@lanarktrust.co.uk or call 01555 728 329 / 07538 387 378.

Over on The Lanark Website, we have updated the Business Directory by adding two new categories, ‘Local Crafter’ and ‘Activity Provider’, to give independent businesses without a premises the chance to promote their services and handmade goods. This is in addition to the new Volunteering Opportunities and Lanark Jobs Board sections we launched earlier in the month.

On Wednesday, I attended the VASLAN Third Sector Forum at New Lanark Mill Hotel. These meetings take place every quarter across South Lanarkshire, and are a great opportunity to network and hear from other charities in our local area.

On Thursday morning, we welcomed The Haven to Castlebank Horticultural Centre to give a presentation about the range of services they offer. For anyone unable to make the presentation, you can find out all about The Haven on their website www.thehavencentre.com. In the evening we had a FlowerFest meeting to discuss the plans for this year’s event on 10th – 12th May. We are looking for Event Volunteers to support with the smooth running of the event. If you could donate a 2-hour shift it would be greatly appreciated. For more information please email festivals@lanark.co.uk.

The week will end with the Lanark Community Development Trust AGM on Friday evening, at Castlebank Horticultural Centre. We have made the decision to postpone tomorrow’s Family History Workshop due to the yellow met office warning for heavy snow tomorrow morning.

It’s a busy weekend in Lanark, with a QUEEN tribute in the Memorial Hall, and fundraising quiz in St Nicholas Church Hall tonight. Tomorrow, be sure to visit the new Textiles exhibition in the Tolbooth, where the Choral Union will also be holding a fundraising coffee and cake morning. You can discover more local events and advertise your own free of charge at www.lanark.co.uk/whats-on

Do you have any ideas to improve the town or projects you would like the Development Trust to consider? Please feel free to email us with your ideas or suggestions on info@lanarktrust.co.uk

We rely on your support and donations to be able to continue delivering community projects here in Lanark. You can click the ‘Donate’ button below to send a donation via PayPal or why not think about becoming a member of the Development Trust to support more regularly? We are a charitable, non-profit body which carries out projects for the common good. Our aspiration is to develop and deliver priority community projects which have a social, environmental and economic impact. Any support would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Melissa
